EPMS: What's new with Imatra?
Mike: We're going to play the Beach House Bar and Grill on Saturday. We're a seven-piece band, playing a variety of music, from classics to new music.
The range in ages is from 25 to 54 yrs old, which is how old I am. My son is a guitar player in the band.
The classic songs we play include, Mustang Sally, some Van Halen, Steppenwolf's Born to be Wild, Bon Jovi, Journey. We're the only band, at least that I know of, that does Freebird, by Lynyrd Skynyrd, with one guitar doing the whole solo. We play Bryan Adams, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Foo Fighters. We have four lead singers.
EPMS: How did you come up with the name?
Mike: Kim goes to El Paso Community College, and takes geology. Imatra is a town in Finland, and there is a rock called 'imatra' that comes from that town. We like it because it is original, and we don't have to worry about somebody copying it.
EPMS: If you saw Jesus on a tortilla or a potato chip, would you believe it was a message, or just coincidence?
Mike: I'd probably not believe it.
EPMS: Which is the greatest band of all time?
Mike: Oh, I can think of 15 or 20, but probably, to me, I'd say, Aerosmith. I have seen them a couple of times.
EPMS: If you were going to be stranded alone on a deserted island, and could pick between having one Playboy or 100 different issues of another magazine, what magazine would you choose?
Mike: Probably Motorcycle Cruiser. At least I'd get to read about motorcycles. At my age, Playboy probably wouldn't do me much good.
