The T Lounge
5/21/05
Chris McFarland, following opening local acts Closure for Emily and Words Like Knives, brought his one-man "angry folk" act from Austin to the T Lounge.
I had been very interested in seeing how he'd pull off a show without backing players; he does it by using pre-recorded bass lines, as well as a drum machine. He also does a lot of finger-picking.
Chris has lots of personality, and very animated movement for just being one guy with a guitar. He does close his eyes a lot, though. I like the way he tells stories while he is tuning. Seems simple, but I never see local bands do that.
An excellent singer, he has very nice projection, but I couldn't hear the words; the sound was not clean enough. Not hearing the words is a major problem; they play a big part of his music.
He put on an excellent show, but when I'm rich, I wanna hire him a backing band.
