Ray - Guitar/Vocals
MikeyIsaac - Drums
Closure for Emily was the opening act in a show that included Austin's Chris McFarland, as well as Words Like Knives.
The first thing I noticed was that they did their sound check in front of the audience, although they'd been there an hour before the show. I don't know if this has to do with the venue, The T Lounge, but it really should have been done earlier. Also, when Ray broke a guitar string, he had to pull a guitar out of a case, plug it into things, etc. All told, a minute of down time in front of the crowd. His pedal changes were also not smooth, but he had a nice voice, and played well.
I liked MikeyIsaac, who beat the crap out of a very spartan drum kit. It kind of reminded me of Slim Jim Phantom of The Stray Cats. I've never seen anybody drum on such a kit locally. He's obviously not being paid by the hour. MikeyIsaac is pretty good, but we have a lot of excellent drummers here in town.
I liked Closure for Emily, but they need to be more professional, and they need to loosen up more. Some showmanship would work wonders for them.
