Heartfelt Embrace, a hardcore/metal band, opened for Devices in Shift and Antigone at Hiney's Saturday night. They are fairly tight, and have a reasonably clean sound, especially for a band of this genre. If they would do something about the vocals, this would be a very good band.
In a lot of these bands, the vocalist screams just for the sake of screaming. Maybe they don't have any better ideas. This can be done effectively, but that's not how it is done in this band.
Roman, the vocalist, spends 50% of the time growling. When he sings, he is not in key, but I think that is intentional. He has a nice voice, though, and he is very likeable.
The rest of the band is pretty decent. The guitars play more than just the hardcore chords, and you can actually hear the backup vocals, which are rarely used, pretty well. If they'd lose the screaming, or get it right, Heartfelt Embrace would be very good.
