I caught In Trance at Beach House Bar & Grill on Saturday, after leaving the Abinormal show. I was only able to catch the last set of the band, but they seem to be a good band. I want to see them again somewhere else to have a better idea.
There was a terrible reverb, caused either by the acoustics of the place, or else the band didn't have good enough equipment. They certainly had enough speakers, so I have to think it was due to the acoustics. I'll have a better idea next time I catch a show there.
The bass and drums do a pretty decent job, especially the drummer, who is pretty good. The guitar player plays too much of the flash-bang style for my taste. The singer sings well and stays in key, but it was hard to hear him with such reverb.
Songs played included Aerosmith's "Walk this way," "Iron Man," by Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll."
I accidentally ran into the singer in the bathroom. He told me they had not been playing much lately due to some personnel changes, but that they are in The Bandit's Rumble contest.
The club is similar to Bennigans and Chilis, but the sections are not segregated. It sure smelled great when I was walking up to it.
Still, even though it is easier to see the band than it would be in either of those places, you can't see them well from the bar, and probably not from most of the booths. I usually don't eat and watch bands at the same time, but I suppose I could get used to the idea.
The club seems dedicated to hosting decent live music, going by the shows they are putting on (this Saturday they have Rusty Nail), as well as what the bartender told me. Also, they are helpful when I call them to find out who they have playing.
They could stand to put in some acoustical tiles, as well as making it easier to see. You can't see the band from most of the bar, except the tops of a couple of heads. Arrive early to find a good seat.
