Following my review of Of Graves and Gods is one done by Javier Herrera of New Horizon, who came to the show as a guest reviewer.

This five-piece hardcore band opened the show for Crisis and Speed Razor According to myspace.com/ofgravesandgods, they are from H-town, NM. I'm not sure if that means Hatch or Hobbs.

The vocalist, Lance, had a neat appearance, kind of a paramilitary look, featuring a black cap. He kept up his growl for the whole set (I just don't know how they do this!). Every time someone from the crowd approached him with a camera phone, he would growl right into their camera. I got a kick out of that, myself.

They demonstrated frequent tight stops, which I like. Their guitar players would wildly swing the heads of their instruments around, almost hitting each other. This was amusing, as were the four guys in the mosh pit. I actually wanted to join them; it looked like fun.

The crowd was very appreciative of this group.

They hung out outside through the other two sets, and were very cooperative, and polite, even, when I asked to take photos. One of them was already familiar with this site, so I am thinking they are probably from Hatch.

Their MySpace.com page shows them playing at the Warehouze on April 23. Since they look like they will play El Paso regularly, I am going to put them in the Bands list.

Of Graves and Gods Review

by Javier Herrera

Drunk on Red Bulls, making them a very animated bunch, the energy pouring out of this band was steady and somewhat comforting. The screaming, however, was very unnerving and hard to understand, but that's always been my beef with this kind of music. The excellent riffs coming from their lead were impressive to watch. I felt an urge to jump off the balcony and mosh.
