Speed Razor Review

3/17/05
Bombardier's

The Band:
Andres - Vocals
Ruben - Guitar
Ernie Avila - Drums
Oscar - Bass
Eddy Garcia - Guitar

Speed Razor, a side project of Pissing Razors, one of the top bands in town, played the second set in the Crisis/Speed Razor/Of Gods and Graves show at Bombardiers on St. Patrick's Day. In honor of St. Pat, there were three nice-looking girls with bright green tops at the show.

Ruben, one of the guitar players, was out-of-town for this gig. I hadn't known that Ernie was with this band until I ran into him in the men's room. I met Oscar because, it turns out, he is friends with The Fewel Project. I had asked them there as guest reviewers, but Jericho hasn't sent me his review yet; I'll add it in when I get it. They left right after Speed Razor's set.

Speed Razor is a hardcore band, but Andres only growled about 20% of the time. They played an original set that was too short for my tastes. It was kind of funny to see Ernie singing without a microphone. When he plays with Tension, he is miked.

Ernie introduced me to Eddy Garcia after the show. I had seen Eddy around; in particular, he did the sound the last time I saw Tension. He said he was available for an interview; I know I'm game. Hopefully we can have that for y'all soon.

Eddy introduced me to Al Jorgensen of Ministry, whom he called "a pioneer of industrial metal." There's another show I'll have to catch soon.
